two berkeley girls love food and love talking about food

Ruen Pair A-

I finally made it over to supposedly one of the best Thai restaurants in Berkeley (Best Thai Restaurant 2004-Daily Cal, Best Thai Restaurant 2002-2003, East Bay Express). Along with three lovely ladies, Christine, Jamie and Lydia, we all concur. Located at 1045 San Pablo, the restaurant is just a mere 10 minute drive from campus. The restaurant was lit by candles on each of the tables had plentiful seating. We ordered the appetizer Mee Krob (crispy thin rice noodles tossed with prawns and chicken in homemade sweet Thai sauce served with fresh crispy bean sprouts) for $6.95. The appetizer was par for Mee Krob, I must say that I've had better but it sufficed for that moment. We decided to do family style and ordered the Spicy Red Curry ($7.95), Pad Thai ($7.95), and Garlic Baby Back Ribs ($7.95). The spicy red curry was delicious- a medium serving of bamboo shoots, green beans, sweet basil in coconut milk with tender pieces of beef. The garlic baby back ribs, however, were a bit tough and dry. However, the reason this restaurant received such a high rating from me is the PAD THAI. As Christine points out, the quality of the pad thai can make or break a thai restaurant rating. I will stand by saying that this pad thai may be one of the best if not the best I've had in Berkeley. We all tried to describe why this was- "creamier," "not as tangy," "I just can't describe it." It really was delicious!!! You jus thave to try it for yourself and let us know what you think.

Cheers,
Melissa
